About Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Mastopexy, or breast lift surgery, is a surgery performed to fix the sagging (ptotic) image that is manifested by volume loss, looseness and cracks in the breast tissue, especially during pregnancy and lactation, with the effect of gravity after menopause and weight loss.
These surgeries result in different localized scars depending on the method. After the surgeon, depending on the size of the breast, skin elasticity, age of the patient, a scar is formed only around the nipple, in a paddle or reverse T shape.
Although this scar is initially disturbing in appearance, it gives better results over time. While these scars were initially pink-red, if the patient has no pathological wound healing, it will gradually fade and whiten within months.
The Surgery Process
In breast reduction surgery, there is a significant reduction in fat and breast tissue and upward lifting of the breast. Breast augmentation surgeries may sometimes not be sufficient alone to reach the normal size of the breast. Before Surgery
- As with all surgeries, it is necessary to stop smoking 3 weeks before surgery in breast lift surgery. It is necessary to stay away from blood thinners and similar substances in the last 1 week.
- Breast ultrasonography is required for patients under 40 years of age, and mammography tests are requested for patients over 40 years of age. A companion will be required to assist you on the day of the operation.
- Aspirin and its derivatives are discontinued one week before the operation. (Consult your doctor for the medication you use continuously.)
- Make-up should not be applied on the day of the operation.
- Nothing should be eaten and drunk 6 hours before the operation.
- Each patient must have mammography/breast USG before surgery. Having a radiological image before the procedure to the breast is very important for the subsequent follow-ups. Mammography/breast USG is repeated 1 year after the operation.
Healing Process
It is usually comfortable after the operation. If breast prosthesis was used during the operation, there may be a limitation in arm movements for a few days. The wound is checked by opening the dressing after 2 days. The dressing is opened 7 days later. The patient is dressed in a sports bra for 6 weeks. There may be swelling in the early period, numbness in the nipple and pink discoloration on the skin. These disappear spontaneously in a short time. You can return to normal life within 3-4 days. It is recommended to stay away from heavy sports for 3 months. The newly shaped breast is durable for a long time.
