Revision Rhinoplasty

About Revision Rhinoplasty

Surgery to eliminate the unwanted results of nose aesthetic surgery is called revision rhinoplasty. It is also called “Secondary Rhinoplasty”. Unfortunately, rhinoplasty surgery does not result positively in every patient and revision surgery is required at the rate of 5-15% after primary rhinoplasty (primary nasal aesthetics).

We can divide the revision rhinoplasty into 2 as minor and major revision. In minor revision; The outcome of the first operation is acceptable and minor shots are required. The patient may be happy with his current nose and general appearance but may request minor corrections. However, if there is significant deformity as a result of previous rhinoplasty surgery, major revision is required. Minor revisions can often be made in 30-40 minutes. Major revisions may take 3-6 hours depending on the scope of the surgery.

During Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure

Minor revisions can be performed with local or general anesthesia, closed or open, while almost all major revisions (except for patients with skin problems) require general anesthesia and an open approach. Minor revisions take 30-45 minutes, while major revisions can take 3-6 hours. The length and duration of the deformities and difficulty, rib cartilage and ear cartilage need to determine the length of time. If the risk is not specified in terms of anesthesia, the outcome is always important, not the duration of the operation.

During revision rhinoplasty, additional cartilage is often required to support the tip and nasal bridge. The necessary cartilage is taken from inside your nasal first. If there is not enough cartilage in the nasal, the second option for getting the cartilage is the ear. If it is not possible to remove it from the ears, the surgeon looks for cartilage in other parts of the body, especially in the rib cartilage. The duration of the procedure is variable due to the patient’s nasal condition.

After the procedure

Pain may occur after revision rhinoplasty surgery. Depending on the pain, pain relief is given by the surgeon. After the surgery, you can stay in the hospital for 1 day or you can be discharged on the same day. After a week, you can start your daily activities comfortably. Since revision rhinoplasty is considered a second rhinoplasty, post-procedure care is the same as the first rhinoplasty.
