Ear Surgery – Otoplasty
About Ear Surgery
Prominent ear deformity, in contrast to the normal anatomical position, is when the auricle is curved forward. The prominent ear can be a source of important psychosocial, emotional or behavioral problems in children. Prominent ear operations (also known as otoplasty) are safe procedures. Hearing impairment does not occur in the ear since only the outer part of the ear is interfered with. It completes the development of the auricle around 6 years old. The most suitable period for the proposed prominent ear aesthetics is the preschool period. Aesthetic ear operation can be done at any age.
Operation Technique
Non-surgical Flap Ear Aesthetics: This procedure should be done to suitable patients who do not have a lot of ear deformation. It is a simple and easy method. It is generally not reassuring and sound. Cartilage shaping is a more reliable option to get a precise, robust and effective result.
Prominent Ear Aesthetics: It is performed under local or general anesthesia. No stitch marks are created on the visible surfaces of the ear. This operation is performed with a short vertical cut approximately 3 cm behind the ear. The desired shape is made on the cartilage and fixed with permanent stitches. The ear is bandaged with a bandage. Since the melting stitch is used in the surgery, there is no need to remove the stitch. The process ranges from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the deformity in the ear.
After Surgery
Due to the effect of local anesthesia, there is no pain for about 4 hours after the operation, after which you feel a slight pain, but this pain is not at a level that will affect your daily life.
- A bandage is applied to the patient’s ear for 3 days. Then, it is recommended to wander with a tennis band or hairband to prevent traumas for 2 weeks.
- You can continue your daily life after 3-5 days.
- You can take a short shower on the 4th day after the operation.
- It is recommended to protect your ear against impacts for 3 months.
Prominent ear aesthetics is an operation that generally gives good and permanent results, improves a person’s mental health, increases self-confidence and makes them more connected to life.
