Gynecomastia

What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is that breasts are as big in men as in women. Large breasts disturb men socially and they want to get rid of this situation. This recovery operation is called gynecomastia surgery.

How is Gynecomastia diagnosed?

Manual examination of both breasts is important for gynecomastia. A hard and walnut-sized mass is found behind the nipple. These examination findings should be confirmed by performing breast USG on the patient. Examination and USG findings guide the diagnosis and planning of treatment.

Gynecomastia Surgery

Surgical intervention is the most effective and definitive method in the treatment of gynecomastia. The intervention is decided upon after the examinations made by the surgeon. Here, different methods can be used against different classifications of gynecomastia. For example;

In glandular-type gynecomastia, hard breast tissue is predominant and should be removed surgically.

Mixed type gynecomastia have excess glandular tissue and adipose tissue, surgical and degreasing liposuction is used together.

Fatty tissue is predominant in fatty gynecomastia, it can only be treated with liposuction.

In another classification, the size of the breast tissue and excess skin are evaluated. The shape of the surgical intervention is determined accordingly.

After Gynecomastia Surgery

The process experienced after gynecomastia surgery differs according to the technique of the operation. If vaser or laser liposuction techniques are preferred in the treatment, the healing process passes quite comfortably. In the formation of gynecomastia due to adipose tissue, after vaser and laser liposuction applications, the person gets effective results after about 3 weeks and can easily perform many activities.

In cases requiring surgical intervention, the operation is usually performed under general anesthesia. In some cases, local anesthesia is also preferred. The person can be discharged on the same day after the operation. Depending on general anesthesia, it may be necessary to keep the person under surveillance overnight.

It is normal to see edema and swelling in the area after gynecomastia surgery. These formations pass by themselves within the first week. There may be mild muscle pain after the operation. It is important to rest for 3 days after gynecomastia surgery and not to move the arms and shoulders too much for the person’s healing process. On the third day of the surgery, provided that it does not take too long, you can take a shower, return to work, and take light walks.

Gynecomastia Corset

Gynecomastia corset is a medical product that should be used after gynecomastia surgeries. One of the most important points to be considered after gynecomastia surgery is the continuous use of this corset. This corset, which is very simple to use, should be worn immediately after the operation and should be worn continuously for the period (2-3 weeks) to be determined by the doctor. After the third week, it is useful to wear corset only during the day, especially when doing heavy activities. This period is approximately 6 weeks.
